Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Odette Cancer Centre)

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is a major academic hospital in Toronto, with 1,350 beds and more than 1.1 million patient visits a year (2024–25).

Its Odette Cancer Program is one of the largest cancer programs in North America and Canada's largest radiation treatment centre. Each year it sees about 10,000 new patients and delivers about 33,000 chemotherapy visits, 2,900 cancer surgeries and 11,000 courses of radiation.

Care is organised in multidisciplinary tumour-site clinics — for example, the genitourinary clinic brings surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, cancer nursing and social work together for prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancer.

Sunnybrook was accredited with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada after its June 2025 survey.

MR-Linac: Sunnybrook was the first hospital in Canada to install this machine, which combines radiation with real-time high-resolution MRI to target tumours and track their response.

Cancer ablation: the first centre in Canada with a trio of specialised ablation machines, including the MR-Linac and the Gamma Knife Icon.

Advanced radiation oncology: image-guided IMRT, MRI-guided brachytherapy for prostate, gynaecological and breast cancer, and one of the largest stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT/SABR) centres in Canada.

Haematology: care for lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma (patients who need a stem cell transplant are referred to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre).

Clinical trials: a dedicated Clinical Trials Program, with teams leading hundreds of clinical trials and laboratory studies each year.

Psycho-oncology: social work, psychology and psychiatry, spiritual care, art therapy and occupational therapy for patients and families.
