The Ottawa Hospital (General Campus)

The Ottawa Hospital is a public academic hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa, with 1,462 beds across its campuses, more than 1 million ambulatory care visits and 69,631 admissions a year (2025–26).

Cancer care is centred at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre on the General Campus (501 Smyth Road), with a second site at the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre. It treats about 21,000 patients a year and provides all medical oncology services for Eastern Ontario, a population of more than 1.2 million.

Treatments include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy, and surgery.

Research is integrated through the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), with more than 200 cancer clinical trials actively enrolling.

Clinical trials: the OHRI Cancer Research Program has more than 200 actively enrolling cancer trials and is home to REaCT, the largest pragmatic cancer clinical trials program in the world.

Cellular therapy: the Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program performs about 300 autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants a year and offers CAR-T therapy; the CLIC-1901 trial launched here was the first to manufacture CAR-T therapy in Canada.

Radiation medicine: 22 radiation oncologists with stereotactic radiotherapy and brachytherapy expertise, 9 Elekta linear accelerators, 2 TomoTherapy units and a CyberKnife.

Rapid diagnostic assessment: the Ages Cancer Assessment Clinic coordinates tests and consultations for suspected lung, oesophageal, colorectal, prostate and hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers; breast assessment is at the Rose Ages Breast Health Centre.

Psychosocial oncology: counselling, emotional support, nutrition, rehabilitation and practical help for patients and families.
