National Lung Hospital

Bệnh viện Phổi Trung ương (the National Lung Hospital, named after Dr Phạm Ngọc Thạch — Vietnam's first Minister of Health) is a Grade I specialist hospital under the Ministry of Health and the national lead in tuberculosis, lung disease and lung cancer; it was established on 24 June 1957 under Decision 273/TTg of the Prime Minister, growing out of the earliest anti-tuberculosis facilities.

It operates from 2 entrances in Ngọc Hà, Hanoi (463 Hoàng Hoa Thám and 2A Đội Nhân), with 47 constituent units comprising 10 administrative departments, 21 clinical departments, 6 paraclinical departments and 10 specialist centres — among them 3 oncology departments (I, II, III) treating cancers of the lung and pleura, thymomas, lymphomas and other malignant mediastinal tumours.

It is the pioneer of lung transplantation in Vietnam, having performed 10 successful cases as of 2025 (a 100% success rate); it collaborates internationally with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF, USA), Fukuoka University Hospital (Japan) and the University of Sydney (Australia) on training and technology transfer.

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for diagnosis and biopsy of mediastinal lymph nodes and for early detection of lung tumours.

ECMO extracorporeal respiratory and circulatory support for critically ill patients.

3 dedicated oncology departments (I, II, III) offering the full range of treatments: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and palliative care.
